Jumbo Pumpkin~ free crochet pattern ~

It’s pumpkin season! I had a dream that I had my very own pumpkin patch in my backyard, only it was all crocheted pumpkins! So, when I woke up (back to reality!), I thought, why not make a more jumbo-sized pumpkin since I’ve only made tiny little ones so far. What do you say? Yes? Keep reading!

Jumbo Pumpkin - free crochet pattern by DORIYUMI

Let’s get started on this not-so-little and somewhat large, jumbo crochet pumpkin! This is a very easy pattern, perfect for crochet beginners. It is worked in the round using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn held together. If you’re new to crochet or amigurumi and don’t feel comfortable working with 2 strands of yarn together, feel free to substitute either bulky #5 or super bulky #6 yarn (using 1 strand only) to achieve a similar sized pumpkin.

SUPPLIES

  • Crochet hook J/6.00mm
  • Yarn needle (I use Clover Chibi Bent Tip Needle Set)
  • Fiberfill for stuffing (approx. 4 to 5 oz)
  • Stitch marker (optional)
  • Any worsted weight yarn in three colors, I used the following in my sample:
    • Red Heart Super Saver, Pumpkin (color A)
    • Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, Fern (color B)
    • Patons Beehive, Shade 9062 (discontinued color), but I recommend Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Taupe (color C)

NOTES

  • This jumbo crochet pumpkin is crocheted using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn held together throughout. Alternatively, you may try using 1 strand only of bulky #5 or super bulky #6 yarn to achieve a similar sized pumpkin.
  • The pumpkin measures approx. 9.5″ wide x 6.5″ in height.
  • This pumpkin is worked in the round, do not join or turn unless stated.
  • Gauge is not essential – just keep your tension consistent throughout.

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

Pumpkin

With color A (2 strands held together), work magic ring, ch 1 to secure ring.

Round 1: Work 8 sc in magic ring (8 sts)

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around (16 sts)

Round 3: *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st*, rep * around (24 sts)

Round 4: *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 2 sts*, rep * around (32 sts)

Round 5: *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 3 sts*, rep * around (40 sts)

Round 6: *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 4 sts*, rep * around (48 sts)

Round 7: *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 5 sts*, rep * around (56 sts)

Round 8: *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 6 sts*, rep * around (64 sts)

Rounds 9-23: sc in each st around (64 sts)

Stuff pumpkin as you move along.

Round 24: *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 6 sts*, rep * around (56 sts)

Round 25: *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 5 sts*, rep * around (48 sts)

Round 26: *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 4 sts*, rep * around (40 sts)

Round 27: *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 3 sts*, rep * around (32 sts)

Round 28: *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 2 sts*, rep * around (24 sts)

Round 29: *sc2tog, 1 sc in next st*, rep * around (16 sts)

Round 30: sc2tog around (8 sts)

Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail of approx. 50 inches. Weave the yarn tail through the last 8 sts to close. The remaining yarn tail will be used to create the ridges on the pumpkin.

To create the ridges on the pumpkin, use the yarn tail to go around the outside of the pumpkin, then weave it through the center of the pumpkin, and finally, pull tight to make the indentation on the pumpkin. Repeat these steps for however many ridges you want to make (I created 8 on mine).

Stem
With color C, work magic ring, ch 1 to secure ring.

Round 1: Work 12 sc in magic ring (12 sts)

Round 2: sc in each st around (12 sts)

Round 3: *2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 5 sts*, rep * once more (14 sts)

Rounds 4-7: sc in each st around (14 sts)

Round 8: *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 5 sts*, rep * once more (12 sts)

Rounds 9-10: sc in each st around (12 sts)

Round 11: *sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts*, rep * once more (10 sts)

Round 12: *sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts*, rep * once more (8 sts)

Fasten off and leave a yarn tail to sew on pumpkin.

Vine
With color B, ch 40.

Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Then, continue working 2 or 3 sc in each ch randomly until you’re back at the base. The vine will naturally curl on its own. Sl st in next st and repeat for the second vine.

To make the second vine shorter or longer, chain less or more. I made 20 chains for the shorter vine and repeated the same instructions. When finished, sl st in next st and fasten off, leaving a yarn tail to sew on to the pumpkin. Weave in all ends.

Enjoy! ♥
