SUPPLIES

  • Crochet hooks F/3.75mm
  • Tapestry needle (I use Clover Chibi Bent Tip Needle Set)
  • Worsted weight cotton yarn, I used the following by Lily Sugar’n Cream:
    • Lily Sugar’n Cream, Warm Brown (color A)
    • Lily Sugar’n Cream, Yellow (color B)
    • Lily Sugar’n Cream, various colors (color C)

NOTES

  • Coaster measures approx. 4.25 inches wide.
  • Changing colors: Pick up the new color and join by pulling up a loop in the stitch after the sl st join of the previous round.
  • Gauge is not essential – just keep your tension consistent throughout. Do not crochet too tightly as your coaster may curl up.
  • Big sunflower coaster pattern refers to the coaster with the bigger sunflower in size.
  • Small sunflower coaster pattern refers to the coaster with the smaller sunflower in size.

SPECIAL STITCHES

2-Treble Crochet Cluster Stitch:

Step #1. Starting with ch3, then continue with a tr st (YO twice, insert hook in st, YO and pull up a loop, YO again and pull through 2 loops, YO again and pull through 2 loops, stop here). DO NOT pull through the last 2 loops (you should have 2 loops remain on the hook).

Step #2. In the same st, rep step #1 with working a tr (you should have 3 loops remain on the hook).

Step #3. YO and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.

3-Treble Crochet Cluster Stitch:

Repeat Step #1 & #2 above.
Step #3. In the same st, rep step #1 again (you should have 4 loops remain on the hook).

Step #4. Lastly, YO and pull through all 4 loops on the hook.

One 3-tr cluster completed! In summary, you’re starting a cluster of 3 tr stitches in the same stitch, but not finishing any of them until the end.

2-Double Crochet Cluster Stitch:

Step #1. Starting with ch3, then continue with a dc st, but do not pull through the last 2 loops (you should have 2 loops remain on the hook).

Step #2. In the same st, rep step #1 with working a dc but pulling through only the first 2 loops (you should have 3 loops remain on the hook).

Step #3. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on the hook.

3-Double Crochet Cluster Stitch:

Step #1. Start with a dc st, but do not pull through the last 2 loops (you should have 2 loops remain on the hook).

Step #2. In the same st, rep step #1 with working a dc but pulling through only the first 2 loops (you should have 3 loops remain on the hook).

Step #3. In the same st, rep step #1 again (you should have 4 loops remain on the hook).

Step #4. Lastly, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on the hook.

One 3-dc cluster completed! In summary, you’re starting a cluster of 3 dc stitches in the same stitch, but not finishing any of them until the end.
