Mr. Spidey Skinny Legs~ free crochet pattern ~

Halloween is fast approaching and I am quite behind on finishing up my halloween-themed amigurumi. Today, I worked on a spider named Mr. Spidey Skinny Legs – because he has very skinny legs! I wanted to make a few spiders that are quick to crochet and this was perfect. This is a super simple & beginner-friendly pattern that can be finished in no time (should take no more than an hour)! Ready to make some Halloween decor with this free crochet pattern?

NOTES

  • Gauge is not essential – just keep your tension consistent throughout. It is a good idea to crochet tightly for amigurumi to avoid stuffing being shown between stitches.

ABBREVIATIONS

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
sc2tog = single crochet 2 together / sc decrease
invdec = invisible decrease (you may substitute with sc2tog)
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
rep = repeat
* – * = repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed

SPECIAL STITCH

Single Crochet Invisible Decrease: Insert hook in the Front Loop Only (FLO) of the first st; do not yarn over. Insert hook in the FLO of the next st. You should see 3 loops on the hook now. Yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops. Yarn over again and pull through the remaining 2 loops.

Here’s a great video tutorial from Tamara Kelly at Moogly.

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

Body
Start with a Magic Ring.

Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around (12)

Round 3: *3 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts*, rep * – * 1 time (18)

Rounds 4-8: sc in each st around (18)

Round 9: *3 sc, invdec in each of next 3 sts*, rep * – * 1 time (12)

Round 10: sc in each st around (12)

Before you stuff Spidey’s Body, work on his Legs so you can fasten and weave in ends easier.

Round 11: invdec around (6)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Legs (make 8)

These skinny legs are VERY simple to make.

1. Using black yarn, cut 8 strands of yarn about 4 inches long (or however long you want your spider’s legs to be, plus an inch for knotting the ball)

2. Attach each yarn close together to Spidey’s Body (4 left, 4 right) and secure one end (see photo for reference).

3. On the other end of each yarn, I simply just tie about 3 knots to form a little ball. Be careful not to tie the knot too tight or it won’t look like a ball.

That was easy, wasn’t it?

Eyes (make 2)
With white or orange yarn, start with a Magic Ring.

Round 1: 5 sc in magic ring (5)

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around (10)

Fasten off and leave a tail long enough to sew to Body. Weave in ends.

Place safety eyes and sew eyes to Body.

Eyes with Purple Border (make 2)
With white yarn, start with a Magic Ring.

Round 1: 4 sc in magic ring (4)

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around (8)

Change to purple or green yarn.

Round 3: 1 sc in each st around (8)

Seamless join and leave a tail long enough to sew to Body. Weave in ends.

Place safety eyes and sew eyes to Body.

Seamless Join
I tried to write out instructions for this but I think seeing a video tutorial will be much more understandable. Please refer to this video tutorial from Tamara Kelly at Moogly on how to do a seamless join.

Optional: Make a loop on top to hang as an ornament! I made a loop using black yarn and then inserted a halloween-themed ribbon to tie on a tree. You may also make a few Spideys with different colored eyes, put them on a long ribbon and hang as a garland.

Enjoy! ♥
